Dear Tim & Hartley, Hi, Sam! Your Ropes are in! 2 dynamic 50 meter climbing ropes, correct? Dear Tim & Hartley, It all depends if y'all want easy going flatwater or whitewater thrills. If your looking for a easy and no frills trip the Congaree or upper Saluda river would be your best trip. If you would like camaraderie with whiteater thrills the lower Saluda would be your best trip. Dear Tim & Hartley, How does one become a Pro-Boater? Lots of time and tallent for the sport of course. Also, it's not what you know but who you know that gets one's name on the roster. Participate in as many kayak races as possible and place in the top 3 postions often. The Corporate idea is the representaion the company gets from your efforts. If you look good in a event then they look good too. Thats my two cents, Tim. Well, Ken, the other (more important) part of becoming a PRO Boater, as Tim stated, Is to look GOOD. My personal take on Tim's suggestion is much more aesthetically acute. IT's all about that... the IT factor... Ken, you have to have IT ... you have to command IT, like the Marquis de Sade. You should google Hee Haw Jones for further advice on the topic, or run a topic search for Kick @$$ Ken (the leader for your namesake in the field of local boaters, on saludayakerz.com). In the mean time, stop in the shop and we'll be happy to get you set up, all nice and fancy... You'll at least look like a Pro-tege. also, a pro boater needs a sense of humor... cheers... One more thing, Ken, you should understand that being a Pro Kayaker is not all that it is cracked up to be, for most it remains a relatively dank existance. Hartley Dear Tim & Hartley, Yes, Get Your Gear On has Sunday river tours year round. Because of GYGO's new location it may be open seven days a week, which would make it easier for people to take a guided river tour or rent a canoe or kayak. The best thing to do is call in advance to book your river tour. Tours can fill up fast and booking will reserve your spot. Thanks, Tim. Dear Tim & Hartley, Hey Katelyn, the answer is yes Get Your Gear On can order all kinds of Pyranha stuff. I was just at the Pyranha warehouse today in Asheville picking up kayaks and material. Let GYGO know what we can do for you. Thanks, Tim. Dear Tim & Hartley, The canoes Get Your Gear On uses, Esquif "Canyon", are rated to 1200 lbs in carrying capacity. If you would like to give one of these canoes a try, GYGO would be happy to set you up. The Canyon is considered a river touring canoe, so they turn well for a 16.5' canoe. Dear Tim & Hartley, Thanks Sam! Had a good time climbing at the local Columbia, SC crag with you and your Army buddys. Dear Tim & Hartley, Your in luck! Get Your Gear On has a Perception Dancer XS (exra small) for $108.75. As for a Whitewater boat for a 180 lbs person, GYGO has several starting in the $150. range. Before you purchase, a boat test drive should be advised. There is a free lesson with the purchase too. Also, you can tag along with GYGO's river trips with your purchase. Dear Tim & Hartley, Hey Man! Yeah, we are planning on Guide Training March,20th and 21st...starting at 8:30 am, at the shop, and continuing the following morning. If you haven't been a guide with us before, then this training is required. If you have, then we strongly encourage you to attend as a refresher. Must be 16 years old, or older... This is simply because ya gotta be able to drive. We also want to encourage everyone to bring their own PFD, Throw Rope, Helmet and Water Bottle. (of course, we'll be happy to work with you to get ya outfitted, if there is something that ya need) We will also provide a "Delicious Bass" lunch! PLEASE, call the shop to sign up and for greater details. Thanks Dear Tim & Hartley, Hey Jason, there is a high back sit-on-top kayak seat that was great for me for my 50 mile trip down the Congaree. It has a 15" back rest and foam seat. It retails for $59.00 and is worth it. Thanks for asking. Dear Tim & Hartley, We apologize for the delay to your Millrace Massacre & IceMan Challange question. Yes there were female competitors in both events. One of which won a Queen of Carnage award. I hope you attended. This year, being the 10th year, was special because many pro-kayakers attended. The pro-kayakers didn't know the river's lines and the locals of course do, making it a close heat for the IceMan Challenge. Dear Tim & Hartley, Chris your in luck. Get Your Gear On has airial Congaree River and Wateree River Blue Trail maps from American Rivers. As for the food stash, make sure it's not perishable foods and it will be stored here at the shop until your arrival. Dear Tim & Hartley, The first thing to remember is that key to looking cool in Dumbass lies within the knowledge that there will be people there with ropes during the race. So, with that in mind, there are several tried and mostly true experiments for retrieving your own safety. Here are three: A. Relax, Smile, and make shapes...the alphabet or numberical configurations seemed to work for one friend who swam there a few seasons ago...He looked Cool! B. Hold your breath...I can say from first hand experience that if one inhales the drink, it doesn't help the Cool Factor. C. If stuck in Dumbass, but still in your boat, Blast, Blast, Blast...Whoop Woooo like the Saludaboyz while your doing it, and Wheel your way out a corner of that smile into the down stream flow! That Looks Cool! If those methods don't work, another racer will probably knock you out of the hole...or, look for a rope! Dear Tim & Hartley, Yep, the show must go on! Get Your Gear On is setting up for a rainy night. GYGO will have fire barrels and a huge canopy for everyone to huddle under. Lots of hot food and chilled beer. With the rain, GYGO might have to stir up a warm concoction to warm the spirts. Don't forget a chair so you can rest your bones. Dear Tim & Hartley, 11 meters per second or 24 miles per hour. Dear Tim & Hartley, Your own urine I heard can or is the best medicine for the money. So the next time you have your foot in a bucket, piss on it. It 'll be warm at least. Dear Tim & Hartley, Yes we all kinds of hot and cool clothing for all walks of life. When it's time to pose for the camera GYGO has the clothing for you. Not only is there water sports but snow sports too. There are even snow skis if one would want to look ultra cool in a photo without having to leave the back yard. Dear Tim & Hartley, Yes GYGO has and does web based sales. GYGO does it's best to keep the inventory up to date for online lookers. A customer can either e-mail or call about a product or service. Were all ears here at GYGO. Dear Tim & Hartley, After some investigation, Tim has a simple answer. I'm talking hand held units here. If you think a complex trip off the main trail is in the forcast, then a GPS designed for the trail less traveled is what you want. If your predicted travel is taking the easy path to pont B, the phone GPS would be fine. Also, does the cell phone need a GPS pay plan from the phone company to work. The cost per month for the plan may be more expensive in the long run then buying a GPS only unit. Dear Tim & Hartley, A social event were people dance, sing and play musical instruments. The audience participates with the singing and the music by dancing , clapping in rythm, along with hoot'in and yip'in. It's a real good time! So don't forget a musical instrument of some sort when going to a hootenanny. Dear Tim & Hartley, depends what sections. The upper Green has two water slides to be noticed. Theres a keeper hole in between the to slides too, but Tims never had a problem with it. I'll play in it next time to see what happens. The Narrows is were whitewater gets technical with boofs and more boofs. If you don't have a gameface for class 4+ creeks then the Narrows may not be your gig. The Lower Green river is a peacful place with some easy whitewater. There are a couple of surf waves to play on too. If the inner-tube retal companys are open they may help you with shuttle for a fee. |
