Based on the shore of the Saluda River, just above the Columbia Zoo, we are conveniently positioned for easy access to all local put-ins and take-outs on the Saluda, Broad, and Congaree Rivers. We run tours of our local rivers ranging from extreme beginner to more advanced boating styles. No Eskimo-roll needed! When the seasonal chill begins to set in, canoes make for a more comfortable paddle to check out the Autumn and Winter colors without getting too wet.
2010 Schedule
Lower Saluda River Trip

11:00 a.m. every Saturday (April-October kayak trip)

River time: approximately 2 hours; total time: 3 hours. Cost is $35 per person. Put in at Riverbanks Zoo / Take out at West Columbia Riverwalk at Gervais Street bridge. Five rapids in the class 2-3 range.

Large boulders and class 2-3 rapids make this a trip for the adventurous! Rapids and riffles are interspersed with some calm pools, which allow for relaxation and gazing at the scenery and wildlife. Experience Columbia's history first-hand as we paddle past the remains of pre-Civil War bridges, canal locks and other stone works. In other places you'll forget you're even in the city as we paddle between islands and gravel bars and stop for an up-close look at the endangered Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies and a nest of one of Columbia's resident bald eagles.

Upper Saluda River Trip

2:00 p.m. every Sunday

River time: approximately 2 hours; total time: 3 hours. Cost is $35 per person. Put in at Hope Ferry Landing / Take out at SCE&G Landing at Gardendale. One class 2 rapid, some riffles.

What better way to spend a afternoon than on the waters of the Upper Saluda. Placid stretches of river alternate with enough easy rapids to keep things interesting. This is a less crowded section of river that offers a relaxing, rewarding trip for persons of all ages and skill levels, from total beginner to experienced paddler. Woods and wildlife abound - beavers, otters, muskrats, egrets, herons and more - as well as unspoiled scenery.

If you're looking for a calm, relaxing float, this trip should fit the bill. There are lots of rocks to maneuver around, but the rapids are easy, in the class 1-2 range. We paddle through the old Granby barge lock, which was once used to move commercial river traffic through the shoals, and stop at the old Granby town site, the Midlands' first colonial settlement. Lots of history, scenery and wildlife make this a rewarding experience for people of all ages and skill levels.
